Week 10.2

This week we have conference. If you haven't signed up for a conference, make sure to do so. The sheet is on my office door. These blogs are extra credit. Make sure to do them by Sunday at 5 pm. Answer the following questions in 1 paragraph.

What are you good at in life? Where do your talents lie? Why do you think you excel in that one area? How have you helped people around you with that talent? Do you think everyone has a talent? Why or why not? What do you wish you could be talented in? Hopefully you feel comfortable sharing. If not, send me a private email.

  1. Everyone is good at something. You may not think that it is as "cool" as someone else's talent, but it is still something. I am a good listener, and I am always there when a friend needs me. I don't have any physical talents, and I'm not very artistic--which makes me feel like I am lame. Having my talent, though, allows me to communicate with others better. I can give advice and make others feel good again.

  2. I would like to think that I am good at helping people understand difficult topics. I have always been really academically focused, though I did enjoy playing Ultimate Frisbee in High School. I think that everyone has something that they are talented at. I personally believe that life experiences, especially at a young age shape a person's abilities a lot so whatever they focus on early in life they are likely to be good at. I wish that I was more artistic, either visually or musically, I just think it would be a lot of fun.

  3. My talent is running. I think im a good runner because im really competitive so when I hear someone catching me I step it up and go faster. I wish my talent was having a good memory, because I dont have good memory which makes school pretty hard. Yes, I think that everyone has a talent and that everyones talent is different because we are all good at different things.

  4. My talent is probably being there for people when they need someone to talk to. I am always wanting to make people as happy as me so if they need someone to vent to I will listen and try to help them the best that I can. I feel that everybody is talented in something, even if they think that they arn't. I wish I could be more talented in tests. I have major test anxiety and this therefore cause me to fail al ot of test.

  5. My talent is coaching. I am good at coaching the kids because I am just as spontanious and excited as they are. I have helped people with my talent by coaching the special needs basketball team to an undefeated season. I think everyone has a talent but they don't find out until they take a chance. I also don't think that everyone should be talented in one thing because then there would be no specific people who would be good at mechanics or stuff like that.

  6. I have been told by many people that I am a good listener. When people come to me with a problem or just wish to talk, I listen and give them well thoughtout advice. I try to be as helpful as possible when people feel like they need to vent about something. Not everyone is a good listener, but everyone has a quality about themselves that helps out other people even if they don't realize it. A talent that I wish I had would be the ability to remember large amounts of information in a small amount of time. Then, it would be easier to get good grades on tests instead of studying for hours on end.

  7. On of my talents in life would be that I can always find a way to make some one laugh and have a good time. I am a person that is always hyper, so if someone is being grumpy or sad about something I can say or do something to make them feel better and get them to be loud had happy with me. I think that cheerleading helped me with this talent because it made me come out of my shell and act the way that I do. I feel that everyone has a talent of some sort; some may just not be as obvious as others. I wish that I were more talented at taking tests; I wish that I could understand subjects that first time that I learn them so I would do better on tests.

  8. One of my talents in life would be baking/cooking. I like baking and cooking and feel that it is more than just being able to follow a recipe. It involves going into it with an open mind. The outcomes are not always consistent and sometimes the outcome is a disaster. Having an open mind about baking, not only leaves you open for suggestions but also allows you to learn from your mistakes. I got my cooking talent from my grandma even though we did not actually ever bake anything together. I just always admired her attitude in life and realized that her open minded personality allowed to make mistakes with cooking yet still enjoy it. Making mistakes only made her try harder the next time. I want to be like my grandma and follow her methods. It helped her in life and from baking, I have realized it can help me too. There is so much you can cook and yet simply just cooking dishes and such can be a thoughtful gift as well as a way to gain experience. With experience comes perfection. You can create new recipes and perfect them over time. I like being able to share my talent with others and helping teach them how to improve their skills with cooking. This talent is very wide-ranged which allows for lots of people to learn and improve how to cook simple or complex recipes. I think everyone has a talent because there are so many talents in life. Even if some seem small, they still are a talent. For some people it may be that they are good at coloring or it may be that someone is a great singer. I wish I could sing. A lot of people listen to music all the time and there are so many different types of music. Music is so powerful and i feel like it is a cool way to express feelings and emotions.

  9. I think my main natural talents has been any form of music. I dont come from a musical family. My closest relative that is near the same musical level I am at is a cousin I have who plays piano from Oklahoma. However, i was able to pick up the guitar and teach myself how to play. I never took a lesson. My mom also set up drum lessons for me in 6th grade. I had lessons for a year and, unlike most kids might have done, I stuck with it and continued to play. Occasionally I try to teach some of my friends the guitar too. I'm pretty positive everyone has their own talents or at least something they understand better than others. Some people get math easily while it takes others lots of practice to understand concepts. I think this is a form of talent.

  10. I think my talent is hula. I think I'm good in hula because I'm very connected with my culture. I danced when I was a little kid and started dancing again a few years ago. I'm not sure how my talent helps other, but if I understand a dance well I'm able to help others who are struggling. I think everyone has a talent somewhere inside them. It may not be big things, but everyone has a special talent. I wish I was a better student, I was never really good at studying and taking tests.

  11. I am very good with animals. Mostly, my talents lie in riding and training horses, even though I am talented in the creative arts. I think I excel in this area because I have a lot of empathy for animals, they can feel it, and respond to me well. People often call me an animal magnate. Although, I do not always volunteer to help riders having trouble with their horses ( unless I see a horse is frustrated and acting up), if they ask for my help, I am more than willing to give a helping hand. I do think everyone has a talent. If they think they do not, I think it is only because they have not discovered it yet. I think that if it is not obvious, one has to put some effort into finding out what it might be. Personally, I wish I was a talented pianist. I love the piano, but I have never taken lessons. If I never try, I will never know.

  12. I am good at volleyball and helping little kids. I think I excel in this area because I have played sports all my life and im around kids all the time because my mom does daycare.I often help my mom take care of the kids and read them stories or have them read me stories. Everyone has to be talented at something. I wish I were more talented in playing the drums. I think the drums would be fun to play.

  13. I have been told that I am talented at making people feel good about themselves. I am not judgmental at all, no matter how big of a problem someone has they can always come to me and feel safe knowing that I will help them in any way that I can. I'm also forgiving and accepting. I think I excel in this because I have been very empathetic all my life. I have five siblings both older and younger and I feel as though I've almost heard it all. I think everyone has a talent because we all have something to offer in this world. I wish I could be talented at playing the acoustic guitar, I'm thinking about learning how to play sometime.

  14. I am talented at teaching and helping out kids. I worked at an elementary school this past year and summer and really worked hard at getting to know the children's needs and learning styles and helped them the best I could. I think that this really is helpful for me in the job that I hope to pursue; elementary education. Everyone is good at something and excels at things. Everyone has a talent. The talents just may not be the thing that they wanted it to be or the thing that they expected. One thing I wish I was talented at is with art. I wish that I could be artictic and creative. That is something that I have always wanted to be.

  15. I feel that I am a skilled listener. Although it isn’t a talent that today’s society values, listening skills are an important attribute. Larry King recently said, “I remind myself every morning: Nothing I say this day will teach me anything. So if I’m going to learn, I must do it by listening.” This statement conveys the importance of listening to others as a means of learning. Every once in a while, somebody needs a good listener, and I feel that I can therefore help others with my skill. I believe that everybody excels in one area or another, if they put effort into discovering their talent. If I could pick a talent, I would love to be more artistic or musically inclined.

  16. I am a good listener and a good problem solver. I think I excel in these areas because I like to help people. I am always here for my friends when they need someone to just listen to them. I do think that everyone has a talent and something that they are good at. I wish I had a talent in being more creative and artistic. This talent would be cool because I love looking at art and I just wish I was able to create artwork that everyone loves to look at.

  17. I think I have one talent it is for sure hockey. I've always been good, even when I was little. I'm a fast skater and that has always helped. I played on 3 different teams all through high school and got a lot of ice time. I also helped coach middle school aged kids for 2 years. I think if you put your mind to something, spend enough time involved and try hard you can become good at just about anything. I'm not a big believer in 'natural' talent.
