I thought my paper would not be good enough to earn a B, but I guess I was wrong. I did put a lot of effort into my paper and continued making changes that I though were necessary. Overall, I am very happy with my grade, and I hope that I continue on in improving my writing skills.
ReplyDeleteI struggled with explaining my quotes, I had some quotes one after another. I need to explain them more. I only had one drop quote. A drop quote is where you don't introduce the speaker. ReplyDeleteBefore getting back my essay I felt that I really understood this assignment, and with the grade I received I felt that showed that I did well. For the amount of work I put into this essay I think I deserved the grade I received. I worked hard on this essay but had a few mistakes that I will be able to fix for my future assignments in this class.
ReplyDeleteI did not struggle a whole lot with the Informative Essay assignment. I think this is because I’ve done similar research papers in years past and I do not think organizing information into an essay is something I have a hard time with. I struggled with sighting my sources, not so much with actual quotes, but with dates and statistics. I felt this was a silly mistake I could have improved if I thought about it more. I think the most important thing I can take away from this essay is how to sight my sources and quotes correctly, by introducing the author and article within the sentence the quote is in. A drop quote is a quote without an introduction, source, or author of where it came from or who is saying it. I had a couple drop quote issues where I put the author, but did not sight the article the actual quote was from. I think that I got about the grade I thought I would get because I spent more than one night writing this essay and also spent more than one time editing it after peer review.
ReplyDeleteI did not struggle too much with this essay because most of the information I needed was easy to find. The one aspect I did struggle with was not putting my opion in this essay. There was a couple times that I had to re-word a sentence because it was more of an opinion than a fact. I had one drop quote in my paper and I learned a lot from that. A drop quote is a quote longer than for lines that is thrown into your paper as its own paragraph. I need to remember to explain my quote better for my next assisgnment. The grade I recieved is about what I expected based on the effort I put in and the confidence I had in this essay
ReplyDeleteThe informative essay was difficult for me. One of the hardest parts was to be objective when writing. It is easy to become so engulfed in one side of the topic and start to lean off towards that way. Also, putting together the information was hard. Lots of information is provided but picking just the right line to use if difficult. My grade suffered just because of the silly mistakes I made. I can take away a new perspective and understanding for people who write boring essays for their life. A drop quote is a quote that is more than six lines and put into the essay as a block that is all two tabs in. I think I could have revised my essay more to make it sound better but overall it was not bad.
ReplyDeleteI did not really struggle with the informative essay. It was not too hard getting the information. The only thing that kind of sumped me was organizing the information. It is hard to organize so much information in a way that makes sense. Writing this essay has made qoting and explaining those quotes easier. A drop quote is a quote larger than four lines that is all indented and thrown in as it's own paragraph. I did not have a drop quote. I wasn't expecting to get as good of a grade as I got, but think I deserved it because I did put a lot of time and effort into the essay.
ReplyDeleteI did not struggle a whole lot with the informative essay but I did struggle with a few things. I felt that I had enough information, it was just a challenge to put the information into the essay without adding my opinion. I also made silly mistakes with in-text citations. I could have correctly cited my information if I had spent more time on figuring out how to. From this essay I realized that I should spend more time figuring out how to correctly cite my information as well as not putting drop quotes in. a drop quote is a quote that is simply dropped into an essay without an introduction of who said it or where it came from. Generally a drop quote is also not explained afterward which means that it is a quote that doesn't actually help your paper with credibility. I had a few drop quotes and could have prevented them. I think I got a better grade than I thought I was going to get. This surprised me but also showed me that I doubt myself and the talents that I actually have.
ReplyDeleteI did struggle with it a little, because it was just a very uncreative essay to write, but once I had found my topic and the information on the topic it was a little easier to write. The thing I struggled with the most was the citing of sources in the essay, I didn’t know how to cite correctly and I think that is what I messed up on. There was nothing really in the informative essay that I could take away with me in terms of writing; it was not one of my strong papers so it wasn’t the most helpful. A drop quote is a quote that is has four or more lines. I did not use a drop quote in my essay. I think I did deserve the grade I got, just because this essay was hard to write and I was confused on the proper way to cite and source, so the grade I got was what I expected.
ReplyDeleteI did struggle more with this essay then I had expected to. This is probably because I have not had to write this kind of piece before so it was a new experience, and probably one I did not set aside enough time for. I struggled to keep the essay neutral and balance the facts with my own personal experiences dealing with the subject. I feel like after completing this essay I have a better idea of how in-text citation should work for this class and a better sense of how facts could be put together. A drop quote is a long quote, more than five lines, that is put into an essay. Because of this length, it is formatted differently than the rest of the essay and given its own paragraph. I did not personally use a drop quote in my essay. I did receive the grade I thought I would. My essay was certainly not the best I’ve written and I know I could have done more to improve it.
ReplyDeleteI struggled with finding the correct information that would go with my essay. I was unsure about my topic and therefore didn't have one concrete thing that I I was looking for. I also struggled with puting the quotes and the citation for them. That caused a bit of a problem in my essay because I did not know how exactly I was doing it. I did use ad drop quote, a quote that is longer than 5 lines. I learned about a lot for the topic that I want to do so I think this will benifit me in the argumentative essay. I did think I would get a little lower of a grade so was surprised with a higher grade than what I thoght.
ReplyDeleteI did have trouble with this assignment. I have never written a research paper before, so everything I’ve learned, I will be using in the analysis essay. First, I had trouble writing my thesis, and condensing it. Second, I had trouble with properly quoting a video I had watched. Third, I mistakenly thought that once you introduce a source, you did not have to do this again, which resulted in drop quotes. This information I misinterpreted from our text in chapter twenty-four. Fourth, this chapter, also said, to indent five spaces for new paragraphs, which resulted in my indents being to short. The book is not compatible with all computer programs. I put everything I had into this assignment. At the time I turned in the essay, I thought I would receive a higher grade than was given. I know I made some unfortunate mistakes, some of which I own, but the shortened indents were based on misinformation by our text, I do not. I thought that it was MLA style. However, I had excellent feedback on my content, but I think the grading on style, and grammar, were a little harsh. I am disappointed, even though I understand. I’m sorry to say, I do not think it was worth the time, and effort involved, which was detrimental to my other classes, for the grade I received.
ReplyDeleteI didnt struggle with this paper. It was just alot of information to organize because my paper had a alot of reasons. The in text ciation I thought I did good on but apparently not. I thought I introduced the source when it first came up, so I thought that was confusing. In the future I will make sure MLA and in text ciation is correct. A drop quote is where you just drop it in a paper with out introducing it or saying where it came from. No I didnt use drop quotes. I am not sad about the grade I got but I expected a little higher.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I’ve written several essays in the past, I did struggle a little bit with the informative essay. Throughout the process of writing, I used skills that I previously learned while writing research papers; however, I did find it difficult not to write in a biased manner. Also, I found that I may have used too many quotes, and that my conclusion could have been stronger. Although I didn’t have problems with drop quotes in my essay, a drop quote is when a writer doesn’t properly introduce a speaker or source for a certain quote. I feel that the information from the articles and books I used for this essay will help me put together my analysis and argumentative essays. I am very pleased with the grade I got. I feel that my grade properly represented the hard work, effort, and time that I contributed to my paper.
ReplyDeleteI thought the hardest part of writing the informative essay was the citation. I was never really taught to do that I would jus google the format when I needed to cite my work. I thought the mistakes I made were pretty easy to fix. I think you covered what mistakes I made on my essay. I think this essay got me to make essays more interesting even when the form of essay wasn't the most exciting thing to write about. A drop quote is a quote that is longer then three lines and indented a little bit from the real text, I did not use this in my essay. I thought I got the grade I was suppose to get because I know I made a few mistakes that I wasn't sure how to fix and the grade I got was I little better then I expected.
ReplyDeleteI had some trouble with my informative essay, but then again I usually do. I always have trouble with citing my sources and using MLA format in order to cite different types of sources. I know in class we talked about drop quotes and how to avoid them. I made some silly mistakes on not introducing where I got my quote and explaining the significance of the quote. Overall I am happy with my grade, I knew I was going to have some mistakes on my paper that were going to bring down my grade.

ReplyDeleteI was happy with the grade I received. I felt like I spent a lot of time working with the citations and it payed off. I feel like I didn't really struggle with this assignment but there are definitely improvements I could make for the argumentative essay. I need to reduce the amount of drop in quotes without a source identifying the quote before hand, and make sure I extend my thoughts on a specific quote. Overall I was happy with my grade, a little surprised how well I did but nonetheless felt good about the essay.

ReplyDeleteI had a little trouble with this essay but all in all I think I did well. I could have done a better job citing and I think I should have made it longer. I know we talked about drop quotes and I had some trouble with, I probably made a few mistakes. However I think I did a good job all in all and I definately learned a few things that will help me with our up coming essays.
