Week 7.2

This week we have peer review. Each day, one person per group will go over their essay. Each blog post for this week will be about your peer review experience. Answer the following questions in 1-2 paragraphs. A paragraph is 4-6 coherent sentences.

1. So, how was peer review? Overall thoughts?
2. Was the group balanced? Did the reader read his/her essay? Did reviewers leave good comments?
3. Give me three strengths of the essay.
4. Give me three weaknesses of the essay.

  1. Overall I thought that the peer review went very well. The group worked well together and Rebecca even caught onto some of her own mistakes without us even saying anything. The group was balanced and Rebecca read her own essay. I felt that we as the reviewers did leave good comments. Three strengths were the facts, where she got the facts, and the intro. Three weaknesses were that she had a chart, she needed better transitions and her in text citation was off.

  2. Today was my turn to read my essay. I thought I read it pretty well, but I do not really like having to read in front of others--especially when it is my own work. The group works well together, and I received good feedback. They liked my topic and thought it was interesting. They also though that my title was a good fit. I have to work on not saying "you" in my essay and fix my works cited page.

  3. Peer review went well again today. Yes, she read her essay and it helped me to find mistakes easier. Her strengths were good information to back her up, a strong introduction, and an intersting topic. Three weaknesses were no conclusion, some sentences were too short, and she had a few sentences that didn't make sense.

  4. Wednesday’s peer review workshop over all I think went really well. I think that our group again worked really well together we were really focused on what ere were supposed to be doing. The reader did really well they read their paper out loud to the group and over all as a group we thought that the essay was well written and a very interesting topic. In her essay she had very good source to support the topic, she also had her in text citations done correctly, and the essay never got boring it stuck to the topic and got to the point. The essay only had a few things that I would change about it. She had a few spelling errors, her works cited page also had a couple problems she had the URL in each of her Internet sources, and her paper needed to be a bit longer. Other than that her essay and the peer review was great.

  5. Peer review went well today as well. We, again, each read the essay then went over what we though needs to be fixed. The essay needed to be a lot longer, she wasn't finished with it yet. Also, she needed to watch the use of commas and transitions. Her paper is really interesting to read. It keeps the reader engaged. There are many good examples, relating the topic to real life.

  6. Wednesday’s peer review went very smoothly. As Kathleen read through her essay we would stop every so often and discuss issues or pros about what she had written. The group was very balanced, being able to discuss the essay with even amounts of feedback from everyone, even the author herself. I felt the reviewers left good comments, not all regarding problems, but also regarding good things within the essay. Three strengths in this essay were good quotes, interesting facts/information, and good siting of sources. Three weaknesses were the lack of a title, transitions, and the paper not quite being finished (though what was written was written very well).

  7. My group didn't end up doing anything Wednesday due to illness, so I got some more sources for my essays instead. We did two essays on Friday though. I didn't feel like peer review went as well because the author didn't read his essay out loud, but we tried to give him some advice on what he had started. I would say that the essay was on an interesting subject, he is using some very good sources and that the writing style was great. However, it wasn't long enough yet, there were a few grammatical issues and some more explanation is needed on some of the concepts.

  8. Peer review today was much better because we had a paper to review. I think that it was very helpful for the writer today also. The group was very balanced; the reader did read the essay out loud. This helped the rest of the group to be more precise on reviewing. There were many helpful comments on the essay. Three strengths of the essay would be, sentence structure was very good, the writer had a lot of information that was helpful, and also it was organized in a nice fashion. Three weaknesses of the essay were that it still needed more information, it wasn’t long enough to make three pages and finally the writer did not have any resources and he did not cite his paper. Otherwise it was a very well written essay.

  9. Today we worked through my essay. The group was very positive in their outlook on my paper. They made sure to give me honest opinions about each part of my essay. I needed to complete all of my thoughts on my paper and have a stronger conclusion. Also, I needed to work on my transitions from paragraph to paragraph. A few things good about my paper was that it was an interesting topic to read about. It related to life before this time as well as connecting it to the present. Overall, it helped me realize that I need to pay more attention of the smaller details.

  10. Peer review went well. We graded my paper and I think I learned a lot about what I did wrong and what I need to improve on. It's good to have people looking over your paper as you are reading it aloud. I caught onto the same things the revisers did while I was reading it aloud. 3 weaknesses in my paper were that there was a chart taking up the page, I needed to work on some of my transitions going into my next paragraph and I need to work on my work cited page. 3 good things in my paper were the inrtoduction, facts, and information following the facts.

  11. Peer reviewing Kathleen's essay went well. We read through her essay and would stop at the end of every paragraph to talk about what the strengths or weaknesses of that paragraph were. Some of the strengths of the whole paper were that she had very interesting information, her in-text citations were done correctly, and she used appropriate quotes for her topic. Some of the weaknesses were that her paper didn't have a title, the font for the heading was different than the rest of the paper, and she stopped mid-sentence a few times.

  12. Peer review went great today. I read my essay and got good feedback. I read my essay and our group was balenced once again. On my feedback they said they liked my inroduction, good topic and that I had facts to back it up with. I can work on my sentences not being so short, some of my sentences didnt make sense and make my trasitions smoother.

  13. Overall, I think Wednesdays peer review went really well. Our group was very balanced and we worked fairly well together. The reader read their paper out loud and we all gave her some good feedback. She had a very interesting topic and a good title to go along with it. She had some punctuation mistakes and used the word “you” in the conclusion paragraph. Her works cited page had the URL cited, we told her she did not need to have it in there. We gave her some good feedback and overall she had a well written paper.

  14. I think peer review went great. Our group can work really well together to find and correct errors. We didn't have her read her paper outloud because her paper was so long. I think we were able to give her some good comments to improve her essay. Three strengths that her paper had was that it wasn't repetitive even though it was really long, her introduction was very discriptive, and she explained key terms. Three weaknesses the essay had was some grammer errors, and maybe just rewording sentences but overall I think her essay was really well writen.

  15. The review of my essay went well too. I think its always helpful to get some insight from other people. Having a bunch of different perspectives makes it more interesting to read. A couple of my strengths were content, organization, and grammar. I still need to work on a better hook. Also, if i could find a way to show a little preview for my arguementative essay, that would be good. Other than that, a little formatting for the works cited was the only other thing needed.

  16. Peer review went well. As Rebecca read her paper out loud, we reviewed it. We found some areas where she could improve as well as as areas where she did things right. Our group worked well together and Rebecca found some of the same mistakes that we did. Her essay made good points, was interesting, and was informative. She should work on her transitions, introduce speakers, and only include some of the information from a chart.

  17. I think peer review went really well, the group was very balanced and we worked really well together. The reader read their paper out loud and we all gave some very good feedback. The reader had a very interesting topic and a very interesting title. The reader had many punctuation mistakes and used the word you a lot in the essay. Her works cited page also had the URL cited, and our group told her she did not need to have it. We gave the reader good feedback and all in all it was a good paper.

  18. Peer review was great. Even though, I did not read my essay out loud (by majority rule), because it was eight pages long, it gave me a chance to read my essay with fresh eyes. I was able to take a step back, and read it, as if it were someone else's paper. My peer reviews were extremely helpful, and they gave me some really good feedback. They said it was easy to read, that I explained key terms, and that it was interesting. They pointed out a few awkward sentences, quite a few puctuation errors, and that I did not make a works cited page. I was relieved to know, that my essay was interesting. In closing, I would like to say, "Thank You," to my group.

  19. The peer review went well. It was easy enough to point out small things to change and I think we all helped each other out. Its good to let a couple other people review my own paper and get feedpack that helped improve my essay. The paper we read was full of information. The thesis of the paper was very clear, and she was also able to include personal opinions. Parts of it got a little repetative and perhaps could use more information.

  20. On Wednesday, my group reviewed my essay. I read the paper aloud, and my group did a great job at peer editing. My group members gave both praising and constructive comments for my benefit; therefore, I thought that the group was balanced well. During our time, we came to find that I could work on using transitions, creating a catchy and interesting title, and making a strong conclusion. However, I did use valid information to back up my main points, good sources, and proper quote format.

  21. Overall, peer review was good. The presenter was prepared and she wrote about a topic that was interesting, but very broad. She cited her sources well and put in the needed details that supported her essay. She also had a good introduction. Some things she needed to work on was that the thesis was not very clear and she also needed a conclusion and she needed to expand on one of her paragraphs.
