This week we have peer review. Each day, one person per group will go over their essay. Each blog post for this week will be about your peer review experience. Answer the following questions in 1-2 paragraphs. A paragraph is 4-6 coherent sentences.
1. So, how was peer review? Overall thoughts?
2. Was the group balanced? Did the reader read his/her essay? Did reviewers leave good comments?
3. Give me three strengths of the essay.
4. Give me three weaknesses of the essay.
1. Peer review was good.
ReplyDelete2. Yes, she read her essay and yes I feel that we gave her good feedback.
3. She had and interesting topic, she used quotes and had support, and it was an informative essay.
4. She needs to cite her sources in the context, she needs to expand on her last two reasons the paragraphs were too short, with not enough information. Lastly, she could have better transitions.
Overall I thought that peer review went really well, I like reading out loud my paper and listening to Lanae’s paper being read aloud because it was easier for me to find the mistakes by hearing it. I felt that our group was balanced very well we were all there to work and we worked very well together. Both Lanae and I read our papers out loud and I felt that I received great comments.
ReplyDeleteSome strengths that we talked about would be the sources that I had, I supported all my facts with the correct source, in both essays all the terms were explained very well, it allowed the reader to know what the paper was talking about with out getting confused. Another strength we had was there was plenty of detail; both topics had lots of information that people probably didn’t know. Some areas that were weak in the essay would be the correct way to cite your sources they didn’t have all the sources cited. Another area of weakness would be grammatical errors; there were a couple areas in the essays that were missing commas and semi colons. The last weakness that I found was with the work cited, the works cited was not done yet. Overall I thought that peer review was successful.
I liked being able to go through another person's essay. It makes me look carefully at each sentence and catch things that the writer did not. Being able to do will let me find silly mistakes in my own paper when I go to make my final changes. It benefits not only the writer, but the ones grading it too.
ReplyDeleteMy group was very balanced. Even though we have a larger group, we were able to talk about two essays during the time. Both read their papers aloud and afterwards we went around discussing what we marked on the essays. Most of the time we caught the same mistakes within the paper. They had great content and the information they got from sources flowed well in each paragraph. The only problem was a boring title and a few punctuation issues.
Peer review today went very well, even though one of our group members was sick. We went over my paper today, and I found my group's input very helpful, and he spotted some personal biases in my essay that I was not aware of, as well as telling me some other information that would be very helpful. I would say that the group was well balanced, I read the essay out loud and then we talked about it. I think that my essay covers most of the important topics related to my essay and the subject is clear, with lots of good facts. There were definitely some grammatical issues, as well as some bias and opinions. Also, I have not yet finished it and there is no work cited page.
ReplyDeleteI felt that the Peer Review went really well. We went over Jenni's paper today and it was a very good essay. She had some opinions in her paper which we told her that she needed to save till the argumentative essay. The group was very balanced. Three strengths were she was very imformative, it had alot of information, and it had voice. Three weaknesses were that she had opinions, she didn't tell us who the people were that wrote the quotes, and she also had alot of information that was repeative.
ReplyDeleteThe peer review went really well in my group. We were able to give ourselves enough time to both read the essay out loud and go over what parts of the essay were its strengths and weaknesses. We went over Jenni's essay on monday. The comments that we gave her were things that she followed and understood. Three strengths to this essay are that her essay was very imformative, gave good exact information about her topic and that it made me want to read more and learn about what she was discussing. Three weaknesses were that Jenni's paper had an opinion where you are not supposed to have one, it was a little long, and there were not exact quotes from the sources. Just a summary of what was said. But overall, I think that the peer review for her paper was good and that she has a lot of things that she knows she did well on and things where she can improve.
ReplyDeletePeer review was nice. It allowed us to have more than one eye look over our paper. My group was great. We were honest with the pros and cons of the paper. We each read the essay seperately then talked about it after we were all done reading it. We mostly concentrated on what needed to be improved. The pros of the paper were that there was a lot of good discription. Also, there was good transitions. The things I need to improve on include a better conclusion, a better title, and going more in depth with some terms.
ReplyDeleteI thought peer review went very well. We were able to read through Katie's essay and point out things and discuss along the way. I felt the group was very balanced. We all were able to say what our opinions were and explain things to each other to help understand the essay’s strengths and weaknesses better. We took turns reading the essay so that we could all read a bit of it out loud to help us when editing. I felt the reviewers left helpful and clear comments, both constructive and praising. Three strengths of the essay were a grabbing intro, concise information regarding the topic, and organization. Three weaknesses of the essay were introducing authors/sources, spacing confusion with the block quote, and quoting format.
ReplyDeleteThe review today was interesting; it was helpful to talk about the essays and topic ideas. Today no one in my group had brought an essay, so instead of peer reviewing we discussed the topics that each one of us was going to write about. Then we also went over what was wanted of the informative essay. The next peer review class we had a paper to read over.
ReplyDeletePeer review was helpful to all three of us. We briefly went over it during the class time, but because my group all live right next to each other we took more time later in the day to thoroughly go through the paper. Our group worked well together. The essay’s strengths were that she explained her thoughts, it was in an order that the reader could understand and she defined her topic well. A few of the essay’s weaknesses were that she had a weak conclusion, the few particular terms needed to be more defined, and the title was lacking in importance. Overall, peer review was very successful.
ReplyDeletePeer review for my essay went very well. My group was helpful with finding the strengths and weaknesses in my essay. Some strengths that my group pointed out were they liked my introduction and conclusion, organization, and the information that I used because they hadn't heard of some of it before. Some weaknesses were that I needed to fix are my in-text citations, introducing the person before the quote, and using commas in the proper spots. Overall, peer review helped me get more feedback from my classmates but I would rather have conferences with the teacher since he is the one that is grading it so it is better to know what he thinks of it before I turn it in.
ReplyDeleteOverall, I think peer review went really well. I think we had a well balanced group. Even though we have a group of four, we were able to manage our time and read through two essays. Kalli and I both went and I found that reading my paper out loud helped a lot and made it easier to find some mistakes. My group gave me both good and bad feedback, and helped with some of the things I needed to fix. Strengths of the essays were they were well organized, content was good, and the topics were interesting. Weaknesses were citing sources, boring title, and there were some punctuation mistakes. I think peer review was helpful and a good way to see what my peers thought of my writing.
ReplyDeletePeer review was good on monday. We had a very balenced group. Every left good comments and no one forgot their papers. We all read our papers out loud. Her essay hada great introduction, had great support and it hooks the reader in. She can work on transtions, expanding on the last two paragraphs and talk about more reasons why.
ReplyDeleteI think peer review was alright. It was my day for my paper to get reviewed and I think I got good feedback from my group. I read through my essay and was able to see errors I had made. My group did a good job of pointing out any other errors I had missed. One strength was my organization, each paragraph talked about one subject. Another strength is that I was able to explain terms that would be hard to understand if you have never read my topic. A third strength is that I was able to explain my topic to my readers. My weaknesses were my boring title, no in text citation, and no work cited page.
ReplyDeleteThe first essay we went over was Jacob's. It went well. I think we gave good advice to help him out. He made his topic seem very interesting. He also provided a lot of information. Transitioning seemed to be well too. A few weak points started with the length, but this is most likely because of the limited resources. There were a few grammar issues here and there. And lastly, a works cited page was needed.
ReplyDeletePeer review went well. The group did a good job at covering all aspects of the essay. I read my essay out loud and the rest of the group followed along while marking down corrections. The reviewers left good comments on what was good and what still needed improvement. In my essay I had a lot of information, but could use more quotes to help support my points. I also had various sources, but need to introduce the speaker before just putting their information in. My essay had voice, but needs to not have an opinion.
ReplyDeleteIt was different, but alright. I personally prefer the conferences. The reader read her essay with ease, and it flowed nicely. I think we all left construcive comments, to help improve the essay. The paragraphs were well put together, and the transitions were good. However, it was not finished, so it did not have a conclusion, or works cited page. I think it would be great, if she came up, with a more interesting title.
ReplyDeletePeer review went very well. The group was very well balanced, the reader did read her essay, and i did give her very good feedback. Three strengths were very good format, good fluency, and good sources. Three weaknesses are conclusion, title, and needed a works cited page.
ReplyDeletePeer editing on Monday went very well. I believe the group was very balanced and offered great feedback for the author. Instead of just one person reading, everyone took turns, so we could find mistakes easier. The author of the essay wrote an interesting paper, covered all the information about her topic, and had a strong introduction and conclusion. However, the author could improve by introducing her sources before using quotes, including a works cited page, and using the proper format for block quotes.
ReplyDeletePeer editing on monday was a little slow. Nobody in our group had yet written a draft. So we discussed topics that we were going to write about. Also we leant suggestions on possible ideas. I am writing about snowboarding and I think I have a good idea of how to write it.
ReplyDeleteThe peer review was pretty good for the most part. We read over my essay outloud and then quietly did our own editing and then talked about what corrections we thought were necessary in the end. Our group was very balanced and everyone had their papers with them and prepared. I noticed that I could work on expanding more on some of my paragraphs and try to cite my sources better. On the positive side, My group told me I had a great introduction and a clear thesis statement.

ReplyDelete1. I like peer review. I thought it was really helpful. I got a lot of insight on everyone's opinion. It definitely helped me with my paper. I liked the overall concept because of instead of a teacher looking at it you got another perspective.
ReplyDelete2.The group was exceptionally balanced and everyone did what they were supposed to do. Reviewers left good, insightful, and detailed comments. I really enjoyed my group and it would be a great group for next time.
3. 3 strengths of the essay was it was detailed, contained an interesting topic, and it had a good amount of sources.
4. 3 weaknesses of the essay was i could've expanded more on my topic, it could've been a little bit longer, and sometimes it was difficult to understand.
