Week 6.3

Today was a fun day of going through a bad essay in class. Hopefully the activity prepared you for next week's peer review work. Answer the following questions in one paragraph. A paragraph is 4-6 coherent sentences.

1. What do you hope to get out of peer review? Go beyond just, "I want to have my essay looked over."
2. Why do you think peer review will, or will not, help your essay?
3. What are your concerns for peer review week?

Look out for an email from me this weekend. Check your student email for groupings and further instructions of how peer review week will be run. It is important that you bring 3 copies of your informative essay on Monday, especially if you were absent today. I am expecting at least 3 full pages in your draft. Be prepared to discuss the essay for that day by providing good feedback and comments. If you have any questions, please send me an email.

  1. From the peer review I want my essay to be looked at like how Chris reviewed mine. I also think the peer review will help my essay becasue it is not just one set of eyes looking it over there are multiple eyes looking at it. The only concern I have about peer review week is that my group may not have enough time to do a long enough time to review the essays because we have four people in our group. I am very excited to see what other people think of my paper.

  2. I hope to get constructive criticism or feedback from peer review week. I want to know what a fresh pair of eyes has to say about my essay. I think peer review week will help me with my essay because I tend to miss mistakes on my own because I know exactly what I am trying to say in my own mind. Hopefully when read by someone else, mistakes will be easier to catch. As well, having multiple views of my essay will help with making sure it makes sense and is coherent. My concern for peer review week is that I will get conflicting feedback from my two peer editors.

  3. I really enjoyed the bad essay that we went through today in class I think that will help with knowing what to look for next week with peer reviews. What I hope to get out of peer reviews is good feedback on my topic, whether it is all over the place or if I have stuck to my topics that I said I would. I think it will be helpful, because it will be nice to see how everyone else is dong their paper so I can see what I might want to change in mine. My only concerns about peer review week would be that we stay on topic with what we are supposed to be doing, and that my group gives me good feedback on my paper, what they do and don’t like about it.

  4. When my paper is peer reviewed, I want them to look at what I did wrong, and what I can change to make my paper more intresting to them and to whomever is else is going to read the essay. Overall I do think that the peer review will help my essay. I look over my essays a lot before I turn them in, but there is always something that I miss or something that does't make sense to other people. So it is good that they are going to look over it so I can change what needs to be changed. My concerns for the peer review week are that people will think my essay isn't good. And also that when they peer edit it, they will think that a lot of stuff needs to be changed.

  5. Out of peer review, I hope to achieve a better knowledge of how to grade and look for mistakes in my own paper. I want to make sure it will make sense to others and that they can help with grammar that I have missed. I hope they will catch mistakes that I have not seen. I think it will help my essay just because the more eyes that look over a paper the more details will be caught. I am concerned that I will not be a good judge for my peers.

  6. I hope while my group is reviewing my informative essay that I get good and bad feedback. I want to be able to improve my essay as much as possible so I am glad that it will be looked at by two other people. I hope my group members can give me advice on how to make my essay better. My concerns for peer review week are that we might not stay on topic or that I won't get as much feedback as I'm hoping for.

  7. I hope that during peer reveiws my group is honest and tough while reading my paper. I would love to get good feedback on how to improve my paper. I believe the peer reveiw will be helpful in writing my essay. It is much easier talking with peers than it is to discuss a paper with a teacher so I believe this will be benefical. My only concern is that we will get distracted and not review the papers as well as we should.

  8. I hope that by getting my essay peer reviewed I will know if my essay can holds someones attention or not. I think it's hard to grab the attention of teenagers, so by having it peer reviewed I can get feedback on what needs to be changed in my essay. I thik it will help me find different ways to state things that will make it a more interesting essay to read. My only concern about peer reviews are that someone may not take it seriously and I won't get the help I need.

  9. From the peer review I want to see a different perspective on how my paper can be changed.I think it will help somewhat but Im still going to the writting center regardless because everyone doesnt catch every little thing. My concerns are people wont really care or not show up. Also I hope that they dont write meanless things on my paper because that will only hurt me, but then i wont want to help them out.

  10. During peer review I hope to get good feedback on what I can improve. I think peer review will help my essay because there will be multiple people looking over my writing and it will help to catch mistakes. I hope to get honest feedback as well so I know if it is an interesting or boring topic and what I can do to make it more interesting. The concern I have about peer review is not having enough time to review our papers and being able to stay on track of what we are supposed to be doing. This is going to be a good experience reading other students writing and being able to receive and give good feedback.

  11. I am looking forward to having peer review week, because I think it will be very beneficial to have some of my peers look over my essay, and I would also like to hear some of their opinions on the subject. I hope that that peer review will help me identify any sentences that don’t make sense, or any grammatical issues that might arise. I am a little nervous to have some of my peers look over my work though, it is a little intimidating to have classmates look over assignments.

  12. During peer review week I hope to get a better understanding of the mistakes I make when writing an essay. I hope to be able to catch grammer issues that I may not of befor when we read the paper out loud. Peer review will help my essay because others may catch mistakes that I would not catch with my own eye. I don't really have any concerns because I trust that my group will be honest and give me good feed back on my paper.

  13. I am hoping to get good advice out of peer review. It is affective to have multiple people read over your essay because each person will catch different mistakes. I am hoping to get multiple perspectives on how I can improve my paper. I think peer review will help me see what my paper is lacking and what is good about it. My concerns for peer review week are that we will miss some mistakes. I am also concerned that although multiple people are reviewing my essay, we do not know exactly what grade it will be given or what exactly Chris Kobayashi thinks the paper needs.

  14. Out of peer review, I hope to understand how some parts of my essay don't make sense to others. Sometimes I read over my essay and it might make sense to me, but it might not make sense to someome else. Peer review will help me take in constructive criticism and apply it to my paper to make it better. I'm only worried about someone marking up my paper and correcting things that might not need to be corrected, it could just be that I have a different style of writing than the person correcting my paper.

  15. Peer review will be good because i will get different perspectives on my paper. Not just two opinions, but four or five will influence my writing. I also hope to learn to give some constructive criticism. Normally, when i edit, i tend to find just grammar mistakes. I'll try to catch more content and styles changes this time. I don't have any concerns for this week. I suppose it would concern me if I was no help at all to everyone, but i'm sure that won't happen.

  16. From my peer review, I hope to gain a different perspective of my writing from fellow students, as well as receive helpful suggestions that can improve my writing style. I believe that the peer reviews will influence my essay for the better. I have found that through peer editing, I can discover whether or not my writing appeals to the reader, and then alter my essay accordingly. My only concern is that I won’t be a helpful editor for my peers, but I will do my absolute best to be a successful editor for my group members.
