In one week, we will be having peer review workshops. You will be working in groups and helping each other out. Thus, you need to be working on your informative essay. If you do not have the assignment sheet, come and see me. If you do not have a topic, think about one and pick soon. I'm expecting people to have topics by Wednesday's class. If you have any questions about your topic, come and see me, or send me an email.
In one paragraph, tell me about your topic and what kind of information do you hope to talk about in your informative essay. Statistics? Pictures? Interviews? Books? Online articles from credible sources? Also, tell me why you chose that particular topic. Furthermore, I want to know what information you will be discussing. For example, if you essay is about roses, I'd want to know about the history/science of the plant, what it has symbolized in cultures around the world, and maybe about rose growing competitions. This is a rough example, but hopefully you can break down your topic into a few major areas and expand in those particular areas of focus.
I am planning to talk about the Merit pay system, compared to how teachers are paid now. I will most likely talk about the different contributing factors and why people are paid the way they are now. I will use statistics, interviews, books, and online sources. I choose this topic because I am intrested in the different kinds of pay because eventually I will be effected by it.
ReplyDeleteI'm still having troubles deciding on what I would like to research. After reading "Why We Kiss," it made me interested in why we do other things as well. I might write my informative essay on the reasons we lie. I want to learn more about whether or not we're born with the knowledge of how to lie, and why we just don't want to face the consequences. I'd like to find statistics on how often the average person lies and what extent there lie is: a little white lie? cheating on a test? etc. In order to find information, I will most likely look for books that deal with scientific reasoning as well as looking up interviews of pathological liars.
ReplyDeleteFor the informative essay I am still trying to decide what my topic it really going to be. I am thinking about writing about underage drinking. I think that this topic has a lot of important information that I could find, and information that most people don’t know. I think this topic would be interesting because I am sure there are plenty of sources that I could use that will give me statistics, and personal stories. I can break my topic down into different sections like underage death and the statistics that have caused those deaths, why there is a drinking age, and drinking ages around the world and how the differ. These areas that I will be discussing will just all give information about the topic and show that I am not picking a side of the topic.
ReplyDeleteI dont know exactly what topic im going to write about but it will probably have to do with statistics. The stats will either have something to do with sport talent by state or something to do with underage drinking. Im choosing between those because Im from california and I hate when people say mullen is the best, when my old high school in california, who isnt even in the top ten high schools in california, beat them 56-14. and because I dont think underage drinking is that big of a deal.
ReplyDeleteI am writing my informative essay on Chemotherapy. I am mostly going to be talking about online articles and maybe a few statistics. I chose to write about this topic because my cousin passed away a couple years ago from cancer and I feel that this essay gives me a chance to see the things that she went through during chemotherapy. I'm talking about the history and what chemotherapy is exactly, the side effects, and the stages of chemotherapy.
ReplyDeleteFor my essay I think I am going to write an informative essay on cancer. I will focus my essay on the different types, the different treatments, and how it affects the people who have it. I will probably get a lot of my information from books and credible online resources. I chose this topic because I know many people who have had cancer.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about writing about the health benefits of humor/laughter. I hope there is enough information in order for me to write an informative essay. I hope to find some interesting facts and learn a few things I've never thought about. I just figured that this topic is really light and different.
ReplyDeleteFor the informative essay, I am going to write about the relationship between how much a teacher gets payed to the amount of work a teacher does. I am hoping to get the point across that teachers get payed too little compared to all the work and studying they have to do. I want to write about this because I feel it is unfair. I am a firm believer that the people who make the most differences and who people look up to should be rewarded for that. Instead, they don't recieve the credit that they should.

I chose to write about this so that people can be informed on why we need hunting. I also feel that people look down upon people who hunt because they kill animals but this has been an age old tradition that has been going on since year one.
ReplyDeleteMy topic is about the Makah whaling proposal. The Makah Indians want to start up whaling since it is part of their culture. There are many debates going on if they should be allowed to. I chose this topic because it is very interesting to me, and I don’t know much about it and I think it will be interesting to learn more. I will be using a geography book which explains a lot about the Indians and a lot about the whales. Also I will research the Makah traditions which also include the Makah’s traditions and also the environmentalist arguments on the situation.

Next, I will have how dancing is good for mental and physical aspects of the body, and I will also talk about what kind of media it is being used in today. I will use multiple kinds of information to have a variety differing sources.

I chose this topic because I want to get a tattoo and prove to my mom that it isn't as bad as she thinks it is. It is a part of our culture and is a way to show self expression. I will talk about the history of body art dating back to the first recorded tattoo in 3500 B.C., the risks involved if not taken care of properly, and why people get them.

Most movies and romantic novels make women out to seem as though they are love sick and fall in love first. Men on the other hand are shown as "players" and the ones who dont get attached easily. I chose this topic because I don't believe this is true. In actuality I think men fall just as quick if not quicker than women. For this topic I am going to research the chemicals in the brain that cause the attraction to others and also the personal stories based on experience.

ReplyDeleteFor the informative essay I am going to talk about abortions. The internet is where I will get most of my information and where my sources will be from. I am choosing to write about abortions because there is a lot of information about it and some of it is unknown to many. This topic interests me because there are many different stories out there and many different sources as well. I will talk about the cost of abortions and how many different options you have when it comes down to it. I will only be giving information in my essay; I will not be choosing a side.

ReplyDeleteI plan on writing about sleepwalking. It has been something that personally affected me, and I am interested in understanding it better. Sleepwalking can effect school work, jobs and even social life. I want to find out more on how it can be treated and what research is being done today to help control it better.
For my essay, I am writing about Charter schools in Colorado. I am focusing on the pros and cons of a non-traditional public education, as well as some of the different types of Charter schools found in Colorado. Thus far, I have found two books focusing on this subject. I am also using the Colorado League of Charter School's website, and the Colorado Department of Education's website. I chose this topic because I was educated in a charter school so it is a subject that is very important to me, as well as one I would like to know more about.
ReplyDeleteFor the informative essay, I am going to write about food safety in the us. In my paper I will discuss how we know for sure that the food we eat today is safe. I am going to use online credible sources and books. Since I like to cook, I was interested in knowing whether the food we eat today is safe or not. So I wanted to find out the history of food safety and how the inspections for food safety have improved. I also will be discussing what precautions have been made to stop food illness and why food safety is such an issue.
ReplyDeleteFor my informative essay, I plan to write about the poaching of Asian and African elephants. In my essay, I plan to discuss the history of poaching, the impact that poaching has had on the population of elephants, and why the ivory taken from these elephants is so valuable. I will be discussing statistics and interviews with credible ecologists in my essay as well. I became interested in this topic after reading an article on the internet discussing the recent incline of poaching in Africa. I also want to become more knowledgeable about the reasons why poachers do what they do.
