Week 4.2

Extra Credit Post:

Music is an important part of our lives. I haven't kept up with it for a while, but I always have an iPod handy with some songs from the past. Music has the magical power of transporting us to different times and places with the push of a button.

Name one song that, at one time or another, just captivated you. You know, the song that you hit repeat 100 times in a row because you loved it so much. Then, in one paragraph, explain what you love about the song, or any memorable lyrics. Below is an example:

The first time I heard "The Freshmen" I knew I would be hooked. I first heard it on One Tree Hill and quickly searched the Internet to find the name of the song. I then found a cover version of the song by one of my favorite groups, Boyce Avenue. I love the pace and rhythm, as well as the message that I think the song portrays: one of innocence and an allowance of mistakes.

  1. The Weren’t There by Missy Higgins captivated me the first time I heard it. A fellow dancer was doing her solo to it for competition that year. I would watch all year as her dance started out as just movements then turned into something amazing. I love the lyrics and message it tries to say but I also love the rhythm it has to it. It is soft but meaningful.

  2. A couple years ago, I first listened to a song by Jason Mraz. It's called I'm Yours. Every time I hear that song, I become instantly happy. The beat and rythm makes the song what it is. Any time I felt sad or upset, I would turn on that song to cheer me up and make me feel better.

  3. The High Road by Broken Bells is probably my most recent favorite song. I can never choose an all time favorite, but this comes pretty close. It wasn't necessarily the words that i liked the most, but hearing James Mercer and Danger Mouse together made it that much more awesome. I memorized the words pretty quickly anyway.

  4. Don't Stop Beliving By Journey
The reason why I liked this so much, is because at the time, I was going through a tough time, by grandpa was sick, and I wasn't doing that good in school. And one day this oldish song came on and it reminded me that no matter what happens, if you just believe everything will be okay. So this song helped me through some tough times which is why I think that I picked it.

  5. One song that has captivated me and made me hit the replay button would be "Misguided Ghosts" by Paramore. The rhythm and tone of the song just puts me in a trance. When I'm writing a paper I put this song on because it helps me focus and keeps me going. All the distractions in the room become still and muted. I absolutely love Hayley Williams voice, I could listen to her all day.

  6. One of my favorite songs is Baby Got Back by Sir Mix-Alot. Its a classic rap song. Everytime it comes on I cant help but start singing it. The songs makes you want to start dancing because of the beat. My bestfriend and I would always blast it and sing the lyrics.

  7. What it's like by Everlast is a song that has always and will always be one of my favorite. The message in the song is something everyone can relate to and it makes you think. Everlast is one of those bands where most of their songs have a message behind them that everyone should hear. But, out of all of them this is one of the strongest messages--Don't judge someone if you have no idea what they have been through or have lived the life they have.

  8. The song "I'm Waiting" by Kani Makou, for some reason has always been one of my favorite songs. I just love the stuming of the ukulele in this song and the picking in the beginning. This song just chills me out, it's like relaxing to me. Everytime I here it I sing a long with the music.

  9. Kevin Dawson

I like the song All the Above by Maino. For some reason this song just catches my attention more than any other. I think the beat is sick and just the combination of like a symphony orchestra and violin with a rap song is amazing. I just like the uplifting feel it has to it.

  10. One song I was captivated by was the Beatles “Blackbird.” My favorite lyric is probably “take these broken wings and learn to fly.” For me it is a beautiful message of putting something to work that would otherwise be useless or a burden. Although the song is rather slow and soft, the ideas present in the lyrics are inspiring, making it a song I’ve always gone to for strength in difficult situations.

  11. When I heard the song "Gmmie That Girl" by Joe Nichols I knew it was a song that I would always listen to on my iPod. The first time I heard it I was with my girlfriend and it really explained to her about what I thought about her. One of the most memorable lines of the song is "gimme that girl without a trace of make up on ... gimmie that girl that the rest of the world aint't lucky enough to know." I like how its just talking about a guy and how he is complementing his girlfriend all of the time and that there is nothing she can do that would make him change his mind about her. It is just a good country song that makes you feel even closer to you boyfriend and or girlfriend.

  12. I love listening to the song 'Jingo' by Santana. When I'm being creative like, faux finishing walls to look like suede, leather, venetian plaster or metallic tissue paper etc., I'll have this song on repeat. Everything just seems to flow right with this song. Its mesmerizing and very up beat. I just lose myself in the music and the rest of the world fades into oblivion.

  13. The one song that captivated me was “One Headlight” by The Wallflowers. When I was a little girl my uncle loved Bob Dylan, but I was not as big of a fan, so one day he played me The Wallflowers, the lead singer is Jakob Dylan. I loved his voice. I loved the song even more. I love this song because it is very sad but at the same time it is really soothing. Jakob Dylan’s voice is extremely nice to listen to. He has an amazing voice. Whenever I am sad this is my go to song.

  14. I have many songs that I could just play over and over again. One song that I really love is the song These Are My People by Rodney Atkins. This song is one of my favorites because its one of those songs that I could sing to anytime, and it has great lyrics. In the song he is talking about life and how sometimes life isn’t great but you will get through it, and it talks about where you are from and how you don’t want to change anything.

  15. One of my most favorite songs is “In Christ Alone.” This has been one of my favorite songs since it makes me feel better. It makes me feel better because it reminds me of what Jesus did for us on the cross. I also makes me feel the feeling I do when I go to church. It also reminds me that everything that is going on in my live will be ok. It also makes me remember that even when bad things do happen it is ok since Jesus is with me.
