Week 2.1

With the upcoming Reflection Essay, tell me about the topic you are writing about. You do not need to know exactly, but give me at least a general idea of what you are interested in writing about for this class. Why have you chosen this topic? Explain the significance of the experience to your life now. Why should other people care?

Do not state that you have no topic. By this point, you should at least have an idea. If you really don't know what you are interested in writing about, come and see me so we can talk about it.

Answer the following questions in 1-2 paragraphs. A paragraph is 4-6 coherent sentences.

  1. I think im going to write my reflection essay about junior year when my track coach was fired.I want to write about this becasue it ruined my senior year not having her as a coach. She was really close to me and helped me alot. We worked alot outside of practices like during the summers she would help me train. She made me a spectacular athlete.Sports is a big part of my life so it really effected me.

  2. I'm not positive that I will be choosing this topic, but:
My sister--who is three years younger than me--and I have always been very close. I'm always keeping an eye on her, and she continues to think that I am more protective of her than our own parents are. I remember when she was in the first grade and I was in fourth. She was at our neighbors house playing in the backyard.
A normal play date turned into a horrific day, when Pongo, the neighbors' Dalmatian, attacked my sister. She had many cuts, scrapes, and bruises, but thankfully no drastic damage was caused before Pongo was pulled off of her.
I want to write about this because I think this is why I am so protective of Rayahna. I wasn't there to help her when she was in need, and because of this, I feel the need to make up for not being there for her.

  3. For my Reflection Essay I was considering writing about my best friend who died in a car accident when I was in 8th grade. My friends name was Cameron and he was extremely important to me. He died at such a young age and it was the hardest thing I ever had to deal with. My life changed the day I found out about his death; Cameron taught me so much about life and death. It was such a horrible experience but I was able to get passed it with the help of my friends and family. After Cameron’s death I believe I became a stronger person and I have been able to stay strong when I have had to face difficult decisions. Cameron has changed my life forever and I still miss him every day of my life. I am sure that everyone has gone through a difficult time in their life, and they have all learned a lesson from them and so I think this story will be important to many people.

  4. I am thinking of writing about cheerleading. This may change, but for right now it is what I have in mind. Cheerleading has been an important part of my life since I was 12. It took up most of my time during my four years of high school. The girls that I spent most of my time with have made me into the person I am now. Even though I have decided to give up cheerleading, it will always be a part of my life. I have so many things to say about it and many different stories, good and bad. I believe I can make it interesting and fun to read about.

  6. For my reflection essay I intend to write about my internship in Mitchell Elementary. This experience was very important to me and helped me define my goals for high school and for college. I loved the time I spent there and the connections I made with the students and their 4th grade teacher, Ms. Scohy. I also believe that this subject is specific enough and within a certain time frame, but large enough to make a good essay from.

  7. I'm not exactly sure what I want to write about in my reflection essay. My family likes to travel a lot, so I might do a story about one of the many trips we have been on together. We have made a lot of memories and I feel that they are the main reason why I am the way I am today. My family is my life, and without them I wouldn't be the way I am today.
I am probably going to write about my family and all the fun we have together, mainly because they made me the way I am.

  8. For my reflection essay I think I will right about the road trip I took this summer with my aunt. I am really close to my aunt and this road trip was such a great bonding experience. This year I lost my grandpa and this trip kind of put a closing to it for me because we did a relay for life at the end. We saw some crazy things and had many laughs as we drove through Missouri. The road trip will be something I will remember for the rest of my life.

  9. I haven't fully decided on what I'm writing about for my topic. I have a couple ideas that i have to choose from. One would be my experience at the San Diego zoo getting slapped by a monkey, mostly because it was my most embarrassing moment. At the same time it was also the funniest when i look back on it. Another would be my experience in Costa Rica last year. Just seeing what life is like over there, and how i would not be able to adapt like they have. - Dominic Williams

  10. For my reflective essay, I was thinking about writing about when my cousin and I snuck into a concert on our family vacation. We go on a family vacation every year and this year really stuck out to me. Going to the concert involved lying, sneaking, and getting lost. It was basically a great mix of adventure and what my family is about. I feel like that would be a good thing to write about.

  11. For my reflection essay i want to talk about one of my vacations with my family. I chose this topic because family is a big thing in my life. We share so many memories. I like to learn new things about my family and bond with them. Other people should care because everyone can relate to some kind of family or realationship. It shows more clearly though travel. I also think learning about others important stories makes you more alert to situations.

  12. For the reflection essay I am thinking of writing about my friend Kyle, who died my sophomore year of high school of a rare kidney cancer. He was an important person to me and to the people in our community. Even though he is gone, he is still a very significant person in all of our lives. Every year our town hosts a "Kyle Blakeman Memorial Fundraiser" to raise money for the Children's Hospital and to cancer treatment centers. It is a way to raise cancer awareness, help raise money for new treatments, and to remember our friend that made such a big impact on our lives.

  13. I think in my reflection essay I'm going to write about how my freshmen year I started hanging out with the wrong group of people. I hung out with people who skipped school, did drugs, all kinds of things. I'm considering writing about this topic because I think that this situation really let me discover who I am today. It helped me realize where I fit in and who I am. This situation also helped me find who my real friends are.

  14. My topic for my reflection paper will probably be about the time my friends and I went up Pikes Peak. The adventure up the mountain was an all day event. It started out as a simple hike, but then it became difficult and it was hard to stick together. In the end, once we got to the top, we felt a sense of accomplishment. The view from the top was beautiful, not just because it was a natural landscape, but because we finally reached a our destination. Going through the hike, we were wondering why in the world did we think this would be fun; but in the end it was worth it. This applies to life because it showed me that in order to feel a sense of accomplishment you have to go through struggle. Life is a stuggle, but once I get to my destination in the end the stuggles only make my destination that much more appealing and worth it.

I plan on writing about my first season of football where I started out scared and afraid and ended up helping our team to get to the superbowl. I was within inches of quitting because of a helmet that was too tight, but stuck with it, and it ended up being highly rewarding. I learned many things about endurance, and patience and I found out a lot about myself. It was definitely the most inspirational year in my life, and helped me grow into the person i am.

  16. For my topic I am considering a childhood memory. The summer day I found an abandoned duck nest. A nest full of eggs that I soon discovered were rotten. It was a day that in retrospect is humorous but, also disturbingly sad. It brought to light how meaningless I was to my family. I have had, since then, my own family and children. I have given my children all the love and attention that they deserve and have a right to. They know that they can always count on me to be there for them. I think other people will care because awareness, of one's own actions and what a huge effect they can have on other peoples lives, should be a big part of everyones's life.

  17. I plan on writing about my senior year performance in my school’s variety show, appropriately named “Montage.” I want to write about this because it really expresses how I became who I am throughout high school and how I learned to try new things and really come out of my shy shell. Going through four years of “Montage” taught me not only to become outgoing, but, especially during my senior year, taught me to be a leader when I took on a publicity director position only granted to select students. The last show of my senior year was particularly emotional mainly because “Montage” is such a tradition and the cast is a very close knit family so having to say goodbye to it after four years was hard, but also rewarding because I know I have so much to take away from my hard work and time throughout the rehearsals and shows. It really helped me out through my high school years by allowing me to meet new people and try something new and this is why it is such an important experience for me.

  18. I plan on writing my reflective essay about my freshmen year. My family and I moved out to colorado when I was in 7th grade and it took almost two years for me to finally be happy with living out here. My freshmen year was a huge turning point for me and it helped me become the person I am today. It's not that I think people should care about this topic but more of the fact that many can relate to the things I went through.

  19. I am not quite sure what I want to write about yet but I have a few ideas in mind. I was thinking about either writing about a family vacation or dance. I would choose a family vacation because being with my family is an important part of my life. I have grown up with them just as I have grown up with dance. Dancing is a passion of mine and something I can easily relate to. People can relate to how I define dance in me or how I am a loving person shown through my relationships with my family.

  20. I am still not sure what I am going to write my essay on. Right now I think I am going to either write about how I did my stand up comedian experience for my cousin at his bar. Or i might write about how i was the basketball coach for my schools special needs basketball team and how we won the championship for the second year. Either one of the essays that I choose will be more funny than serious becasue I am more of a funny person and I feel like it will give the reader a better perception of who I am as a person.

  21. The topic I will chose for the reflection essay is the trip to my grandpa’s funeral and the time there. I choose this topic for the reflection essay since it is the first time someone close to me has died. This is significant to me since this is one of the events that taught me to deal with depression. Other people should care about this since if I did not my learn how to deal with my feelings I would not be the same person I am today.

  22. For my reflection essay, I have a few ideas that might work and so this idea may not be final, but the one that I am leaning towards is about my trampoline accident. From this trampoline accident I cut my eyelid and eyebrow open and had to get many stitches. I find my accident ironic because my twin brother had an eye accident as well but his was from a fly fishhook getting stuck in his eye. Somehow both of us did not damage our eyesight and both have great stories from these events. The difference between our two different accidents is that he had to change from playing soccer to playing tennis and just that switch has impacted who he has become today. Where as my accident did not negatively impact me and instead it has greatly helped me. This idea will interest others because others can relate to stories like these and will be able to see how events like these are humorous yet have a serious side to them as well.

  23. For my reflection essay, I am going to write about a scary experience I had one night when I was driving. After hanging out with my friends one evening, I was on my way home when I was forced to drive over a mattress laying in the middle of the interstate, while traveling approximately seventy- five miles per hour. Although I can laugh about it today, this experience changed the way I thought about driving. Although I was taught to be a safe and defensive driver, this strange ordeal has helped me become a more cautious and aware driver. Today, I am extremely thankful that nobody was hurt during this experience and pray that nobody else will have to face that kind of situation.
