  1. "Some Lines for a Younger Brother" is a reflective essay about a sister remembering times with her brother from his birth to his death. The purpose is to remind people of how important family togetherness is. Sue Kunitomi Embrey uses verbs and adjectives that describe her thoughts as each memory occurred--which you can feel alongside her. She shows her sadness and her pain when her family was beginning to get torn apart and when her life was being flipped upside down. Her imagery is great, allowing for readers to understand what she wants to say without needing to just say it--like when she explained her brother's funeral.

Embrey can be a trusted writer for this topic because she was actually there to experience it. She had to go through a hard time and wrote about it for all to read. Because she was there during the times with her brother, and since it is a reflection, you can easily trust the writer.

It is difficult to say whether or not the writer can be trusted, she is not attempting to sell an products, but she does have a bias because of her personal role in the story. She is telling a very deep and personal story about one of her loved ones dying serving the country that treated him poorly as a young boy. This essay works because of the use of time and the vibrant language allowing the reader to connect to the story. It appeals to readers on an emotional basis and is written in an easy to read style. The reader feels the sadness over the loss of her brother as well as the fear and hopelessness of the concentration camp.

However when something is very important to us we can remember more. I felt the distance her family had and i also felt the sorrow when her dad and brother had died.

  11. "Some Lines for a Younger Brother..." written by Sue Kuitomi Embrey, born a Japanese American citizen, is an essay that reflects on who she and her family were before and after the Wars. Embrey's purpose was to show the effects of how, an unjustified government action(created from the mass hysteria of the times), and Wars, can tear families apart, influence an individuals life and the difficulties of repairing broken relationships. Embrey shows how she lost her belief in our government while incarcerated at the Manzanar Relocation Camp. Although Embrey acknowledges,in her essay, the publics attention twenty-six years later, to the plight of the Japanese Americans of 1942,she also subtly hints that the government does not. It is because of the bias and prejudice that, she has suffered in the past, I think her objectiveness is slightly slanted. Chronlogicly, Embrey takes the reader on a journey of life, death, conflict and poverty. It appeals to anyone with a since of family. Emery's compelling stuggle of frustration, anger and sadness is felt by the reader from begining to end.

  22. "Some Lines for a Younger Brother.” Is a reflective essay where Mrs. Embrey tells us of her youngest brother. No we can not trust the write in this story because she is telling about what she remembers and she me not remember it all so clearly. We also can not trust the write in this story since she may not be telling the truth since she could be bias and try not to embarrass her brothers memory by telling use some of the bad things he did. The story works by giving use a time period then describing what her brother was like and what he did. This story transfers the emotion of sadness on you since you hear of all the stuff that occurred to her brother.
